An inspiring advocate for marginalised communities in Oregon.

Kayse Jama is a community leader and fierce advocate for immigrant and refugee communities who deeply understands the importance of civic and cultural ties in building safe, stable, and successful lives. A Somalian refugee, Kayse learned from a young age that every person has a role to play in the community, and that working interdependently with each other is critical to its success. He fled his war-torn country, arriving to the United States in 1998, and has since dedicated his life to serving underrepresented and marginalised communities.

Tectonica first worked with Kayse Jame in 2017, and we were thrilled to be able to work with him again on his campaign for Oregon Senator. If he wins the Senate seat, Kayse would be the first former refugee and the first Muslim serving in the Oregon Senate. He is committed to staunchly representing all of the residents of Senate District 24 in Salem.
For Kayse’s site, we revamped a previous brand (also from our creation) around bold and modern typography, and a blue and orange palette - colours typically unusual for U.S. politics. The website we created for him was designed to support his campaign, show his endorsements and broad coalition, and mobilise supporters. We wanted to highlight Kayse’s extraordinary story and achievements to allow visitors to gain a clear picture of who he is and what inspires him to serve his community. As fundraising is key to the success of political campaigns, we made sure to create a prominent “Donate” button that allows supporters to seamlessly donate to his campaign and set up recurring donations if they want. Supporters interested in taking a more active role in the campaign are able to quickly and easily sign up to, and see what Kayse’s positions are on key issues.
