Primary Functions

Overall Objective: 

  • Translating client's needs or requests into design solutions by researching, conceiving, wireframing, sketching, prototyping, user stories, user journeys and mocking up user experiences for desktop and mobile applications.
  • Design unique, useful, high quality layouts, incorporating user requirements, both in terms of functions and aesthetics.
  • Be able to make the correct design and UI/UX decisions in an agile and independent way, without constant supervision. Be ready to deliver on time, budget and expectations.
  • Be the driving force of user research by identifying needs on the team, planning, defining, conducting and reporting findings of all conducted research: interviewing, polls, user testing.
  • Show proactivity and communicate constantly with the rest of the team.
  • Combine user data and research to create user flows, wireframes, information architecture, sitemaps and interface mockups.
  • Find and select photography and other design resources in a pleasant and coherent way. Find and select typographies according to the design requirements.
  • Create click-through and interactive prototypes for user testing at all stages of the user experience definition.
  • Collaborate in defining, updating and using the UI Component guidelines, including design systems when appropriate.
  • Incorporate feedback from clients and CCO, and learn from it.

 

Design Tools

  • Mastery of design tools: Sketch, Photoshop and Illustrator. Extremely detailed and pixel perfect designs, ready to handle to developers.
  • Good HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus.
  • Expertise in UX software such as InVision, UXPin, Balsamiq, Framer.js and the like is necessary.
  • Proficiency with prototyping tools: Invision preferred, Axure and Zeplin are also valued.
  • Responsive and multiplatform design.
  • SVG animation skills are particularly valued.

 

UX/UI Activities

  • A solid grasp of user-centred design and testing methodologies, subsystems, and usability and accessibility concerns.
  • Due to the intrinsic fast dynamics proper of our client base, you must be able to create designs accordingly (in a short amount of time), without sacrificing attention to the detail and usability ease. 
  • Ability to iterate your designs and solutions efficiently and intelligently.
  • Identify design problems and devise elegant solutions.
  • A clear understanding of the importance of user-centred design.        
  • Make strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core, and new, functions and features.
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
  • Develop design requirement documents based on strategic notes and briefings (verbal and/or written).
  • Develop accurate time estimates and quotes for design, and manage the project priorities in order to stick to them. Ability to identify potential issues that might affect the original estimates during the course of a project, and clearly communicate them to supervisors and the rest of the team involved.

  • Nobody crafts digital design like you: maybe you started with Photoshop but now you love Sketch; you feel at home designing stellar landing pages, inner templates, design systems, and everything that comes with it: from responsive designs to mobile apps. And because you love to take things a bit further, you have learned to play around with InVision to add some life to your concepts.
  • Freelance and/or agency experiences are a plus.
  • Take smart risks and champion new ideas.
  • Know Agile methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • You can do all of these things because you are good at focusing on the main picture of a project.
  • You love your designs. That’s why you’ll spot the smallest bug when you do the post-integration QA (but be nice with the devs!)
  • You are opinionated and not afraid to tell your bosses when they’re wrong, but you’re also humble enough to recognize it when you screw it (we all do it sometimes!). 
  • You have an amazing online portfolio what will make us speechless.
  • You first embraced Jira and Confluence several years ago. If not, you are at least familiar with what Project Management Software is.
  • Maybe you also know how to create animations with After Effects. If so, you know you’re ahead of the pack.

 

Required Experience and Skills

  • 5 years in a UI/UX agency making projects.
  • Experience working in projects and product design at progressive political parties Politicians/NGOs are valued.
  • 5 years in similar positions of UI/UX design.
  • Ninja skills using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects, XD (or Sketch), Google Drive, Iconfinder.
  • We value if you have Front End skills (Javascript, jQuery, CSS, HTML, PHP)
  • Preferred experience in any political or organisational work.   
  • Outstanding portfolio that showcases creative and systematic design thinking and execution of web or mobile applications.
  • Highly organized and detail-obsessed.
  • Flexible, enthusiastic, self-starting, team player.
  • Background in organizing or politics is appreciated but not essential. 
  • Passion for making an impact in the world through the intersection of technology and politics. 

Education requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related field or equivalent experience.

Languages

  • English: Fluent or native.
  • Spanish: preferred writing and speaking intermediate or advanced.
  • Others (it will be valued).
